Production factory....

KISS - Keep it simple Shanghai.

This is the name of our book. We are right now in the very last phase of our project about mapping out creativity in Shanghai and giving our factuel and inspirational book to the Shanghai Fashion Hub.

We are really pounding away - mistreating our macs to the max.

Its getting there - today we will have a prototype of the finished book - hopefully by 1600 hours. The book is running on 120 pages right now so it is a lot of work trying to get layout, text, pictures and graphics to all come together in one big beautiful and hopefully inspiring publication for our client.

We are really looking forward to seeing the finished result!

Learnings, insights and ideas galore...

Update from the natural, creative, resourceful and whole group.

We are busy working on our books publication. It will be handed out to our clients in about 2 weeks from now. We’ve had some great ideas and now it’s all about boiling them down to a deliverable we are satisfied with.

It’s been inspiring to meet the people that are in the creative networks in Shanghai. We’ve met Gallery owners, Fashion designers, Graphic designers Architects, Musicians and Entrepreneurs in our research. We have come across some inspiring websites that work in the same business, as the Shanghai Fashion Hub wants to work with in the future.

As it is as a part of our research material we encourage you to comment on this post if you would like to know more about the places we have visited, as we are not in the business of advertising for these guys at the moment.

We made a discovery today about how we act as a group working with a client organization. When you are involved with an organization and are a part of it is very easy to start to reflect or mirror the internal patterns of the organization. It is a very important thing to stay aware of during any given project and stay focused on that you stay true to your own values and your own concepts of project work and professionalism. We had a guidance meeting with Simon and Fanny today where we became aware of that we had fallen in to the patterns of your client instead of staying true to our own values and knowledge. This is a really important learning for us and we now already have a much better view on what it is that we need to do in this final stage of our project.

We could be challenging us more with this project as true Kaospilots should always strive to do, so something new might be on the horizon in addition to the book we’re publishing.

We have had some great insight and ideas today about our group, our client and about our book – and we are having a meeting this afternoon with Joy and Eric from the Marketing Dept. from The Fashion Hub and we also have a meeting a guy who is doing a movie for the Hub about what it is now and what it can be in the future. We are very much looking forward to this meeting and getting even more insight and new ideas.

Stay out of school kids,

The MOB.

Update from the FashioFolksters...

Greetings from the Fashionistas...

We have been facing some serious challenges in client communication due to language and differences in Chinese vs. Western business culture. But OH what a ride it´s been. The group has been trying to make sense out of all of this and when looking at it we have all learned some precious things about ourself as a group in a total new context.

We finally have a direction in the project and we have a task of mapping out the creative network in Shanghai. It´s a bit fluffy but fun nonetheless. We as a group have made our own goals within that project and one of it is to share this business culture experience with the rest of team 13 and our Kaospilot network. Before this new direction came into play the song on most of our minds was “should i stay or should i go” made immortal by Clash.

We have met with our new group members from Fudan University and they are all very excited about working on this with us and we love to have fresh eyes coming into the group. We have some exciting places to see and some interesting people to meet. The weekend is packed with social research as we got a tip from Ben at Confucius says, to go out to bars to meet up with the creative people where they are hanging out and networking.

The weather is mild, the spirit is up and the song for today is “I’m coming out” by the fiery Diana Ross as we are all going out for research this weekend.

The Unknown!

What to do when being stocked in project work?

The Fashion Hub group are still in the unknown zone searching for the light. Our clint, the Shanghai Fashion Hub, has still not presented a project description for us. After a confusing meeting with the boss the other day, our group still stand with only questions and very few answers. As this is being typed we are in a waiting position. Simon our Team manager is in a meeting with Mr. Lee (the boss of the hub) The result of this meeting might be crucial for our further project work. Will we create a marketing strategy? Design a huge process? Develop Services for creative industries? or something completely different? As said before: The Questions are many, the answers are few. It is an interesting situation for the group, when looking at cooperation and personal ways of dealing with culture clashes and unstable grounding. We were from the start promised a place to stay, for free, at the Hub. Friday 3 days before moving in, the promises was canceled.

So the situation to day, Monday the 25th is: No project so far, and no housing. Spit or challenges the group is smiling and looking forward to get some answers on the table.

Shanghai is still interesting, rough, inspiring, crazy, Hugh and friendly! we like it a lot.
